Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 pricing and review (2022)

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 pricing and review (2022): The Nvidia RTX 4080 price starts at $899 for the 12GB memory option, and the 16GB memory option is priced at $1,199 MSRP (Founder’s Edition). The RTX 4080 series will be available in November 2022, with multiple designs from its board partners like ZOTAC, Inno3D, Colorful, Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS, etc.

At $1,599 (£1,679 in the U.K.) the GeForce RTX 4090 isn’t cheap and will launch at some $100 more than the RTX 3090. Meanwhile, the GeForce RTX 4080 comes in 12GB and 16GB versions, costing $899 (£949) and $1,199 (£1,269) respectively. That means the RTX 3080 is some $200 more expensive than the RTX 3080 was at launch.

From the specs so far, we chew over if you should get ready to upgrade to the new GeForce RTX 40-series. Two years after the launch of the GeForce RTX 30-series and huge stock shortages later, Nvidia has revealed the first two graphics cards of the new GeForce RTX 40-series.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 has two memory options; 16GB and 12GB. The 16GB model features AD103-300 GPU with 9728 CUDA cores, 16GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 22.5 Gbps, and a TDP of 320W. While the 12GB memory option has AD104 GPU with 7680 CUDA cores, 12GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 21 Gbps, and a TDP of 285W.

But the kicker here is, these cards are set to arrive when the semiconductor shortage that blighted everything from new graphics cards, PS5 restocks and Xbox Series X restocks, to car components, has eased off considerably. And a huge collapse in GPU-powered cryptocurrency mining, thanks to the likes of Ethereum dropping in value, means there’s less of a feverish appetite for new GPUs.

As such, that means there’s likely to be a greater chance of getting the new graphics cards at their retail value, something that wasn’t possible for the RTX 30-series, and even today you’ll find the likes of the RTX 3080 at inflated prices.

So all this leads to the question of whether you should be ready to upgrade to a GeForce RTX 3080 or other RTX 40-series cards that are likely to arrive as 2022 gives way to 2023.
