How to Find a Lost iPhone even if it’s turned off

How to Find a Lost iPhone even if it’s turned off. We’ll even show you how to find a lost iPhone without Find My iPhone! With iOS 15, Find My will locate your phone even after the phone’s battery dies.

Learn how to find a dead iPhone by enabling the Find My iPhone last known location feature, how to find the last location of an iPhone, even if it’s dead or offline, what to do once you’ve located your lost iPhone, and how to find an iPhone without Find My iPhone.

This guide will tell you everything you need to know about using Apple’s Find My app. But first, make sure you have a passcode set up. That way if someone does steal your phone, they won’t have access to a treasure trove of personal info. Let’s also take a few minutes to make sure the Find My service is enabled so you’ll have the best chance of getting your device back.

And now that iOS 15 brings with it the capability to locate your phone even if the battery has run out or it’s been turned off — if you’ve got the right phone — the utility of Find My has become even greater.

You will be able to locate a shut-off phone if you have the following:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro / iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 Mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro / iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13 / iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro / iPhone 13 Pro Max

You’ll know that this feature is active if, when you shut your phone down, you see the phrase “iPhone Findable After Power Off” under the power-down toggle.

Make sure Find My iPhone is enabled

If you’re new to the iPhone or have never set up the Find My app yet, here’s how you start:

  • Go to your settings, tap on your name, and then on “Find My.”
  • Tap on “Find My iPhone.”
  • Toggle “Find My iPhone” on. If you have upgraded to iOS 15, you can also activate “Find My network,” which will let you find your phone even if it’s offline. “Send Last Location” will send t

After setting a passcode, double-check that Find My is turned on. It should be enabled by default, and you’d have to go out of your way to disable it, but it’s always a good idea to double-check right now.

On your iPhone, open the Settings app and tap on your name at the top of the screen. Next, tap Find My > Find My iPhone. Make sure that the switch next to Find My iPhone is on, and while you’re there, make sure the switches next to Find My network and Send Last Location are on as well.

As a refresher, Apple’s Find My network will crowdsource the location of a device marked as lost. For example, if you lose your iPhone and mark it as lost in the Find My app (more on that process in a minute), Apple will use the Find My service on any iPad, iPhone, or Mac to locate your iPhone, even if it’s not connected to the internet. The device owner won’t even know they’re helping you find your lost device.

As for Send Last Location, well, that’s pretty self-explanatory. As your battery gets low, it will automatically send its last location to Find My in an effort to help you recover it if it turns off. You can still track your phone after it shuts down if your device is running iOS 15, but that’s only available on newer iPhone models.
