Corning Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ will protect the camera lenses of the latest upcoming phones

Corning Gorilla Glass DX And DX+ Will Protect The Camera Lenses Of The Latest Upcoming Phones – Tech News. Corning Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ will improve camera experience and also serve as lens protection. But how? If you carefully take a look at the rear camera of your smartphone, you’ll notice there is a covering glass to the sensor.

Corning announced a couple of new lens protective glass composites dubbed Gorilla Glass DX and DX+. These are technically not new as they have been covering smartwatch displays since 2018 but the transition to camera lenses required plenty of tweaking to durability and light transmittance.

However, on smartphones, the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ will be used for more advantage. First, it is expected to offer advanced optical performance by letting in more light to pass through to the camera sensor. For example, regular smartphone lens covers may allow 92% light to pass through to the camera sensor. But the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ will allow up to 98% lighting. And like well all know, “more light means better photo”.

The second reason why the Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ are the right way to go is because of their toughness. Corning states that its Gorilla Glass with DX and DX+ offers better scratch resistance and durability.

And thirdly, Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ offer less reflection and have a way of reducing intensive blinding light that is from the opposite direction. Which when combined with improved clarity should result in better-looking photos.

Samsung will get the Corning Gorilla Glass DX And DX+ First

More than 45 brands have added Corning’s Gorilla Glass to over 8 billion devices. Since 2016, Gorilla Glass DX products have been used on over 30 million smartwatches. It is still unclear which phones will use the new glass composites. Samsung has already signed on to use the new camera lens covers.

So, we could see the Gorilla Glass DX products on one of its smartphones. The South Korean tech giant will be unveiling some new products during its’s Galaxy Unpacked event on August 11.

Corning says that Gorilla Glass DX/DX+ for smartphone cameras will debut first in upcoming Samsung hardware. It’s not specified what device will introduce it, but given the timing and the track record at play, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 seem like prime candidates.

Gorilla Glass DX and DX+ are capable of boosting the scratch resistance and durability of smartphone camera lenses. Aside from that, these glass options provide what the company describes as an “advanced optical performance.” Camera lenses rely on coatings to minimize glares and enhance light transmission. While this enables you to capture professional-grade images, the lenses are more likely to get scratches, per SlashGear.

The newfangled Gorilla Glass composites not only improve the optical performance but also increase the durability of the lenses. Samsung will be the first company to equip its mobile phone cameras with the Gorilla Glass DX. The same composites are likely to appear on other high-end phones from different manufacturers in the future.
