Apple Watch Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro: Best smartwatch in 2022

Apple Watch Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro: What made the Apple Watch Ultra different from the Apple Watch Series 8, also made it different from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. While the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is sophisticated for regular users, the Apple Watch Ultra on the other hand is made for professionals. Hence the reason the Apple Watch Ultra is fantastically expensive.

So the question is, what features precisely set the Apple Watch Ultra apart from every other smartwatch out there? Simply put, the Apple Watch Ultra is made specifically for athletes and adventurers. Well, let’s proceed to see more differences.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra are two of the latest smartwatches on the market. Both watches also target the exact same customer group – adventurous outdoor types who are active and need/want features that work with that. Both smartwatches offer a fair amount of those features to their respective customers. And of course, both are naturally geared toward separate platforms.

That being said, each also potentially has the ability to draw customers over from the opposite platform. Both the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and the Apple Watch Ultra have things going for them that make them tempting pieces of tech. In this article, we’ll compare the two smartwatches. While the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and the Apple Watch Ultra are similar in a number of ways, they’re also quite different. So let’s break down how each compares.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro VS. Apple Watch Ultra (2022)

Release Date and Availability in the US, UK, Nigeria, Canada

The Apple Watch Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is now available for purchase. You can use the box at the bottom of this post to purchase either of them. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro was launched on August 10th, 2022. While the Apple Watch Ultra was released on September 7th. 2022.

Design, Display, and Durability

The design and shape of these two smartwatches are different. Apple Watch Ultra has a rectangular shape, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a circular shape. And both smartwatches are protected by sapphire glass.

However, the Apple Watch Ultra is more durable than the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. It is rugged and can survive extreme weather conditions. For adventurers or recreational scuba diving (up to 100m underwater).

Thus, when it comes to durability and doggedness, the Apple Watch Ultra is miles ahead of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Samsung is yet to make any Watch like the Apple Watch Ultra. But why those crazy features? They are for athletes and adventurers- the Apple Watch Ultra is for professionals or a specific audience.

Both smartwatches have an OLED Always-On display. However, the Apple Watch Ultra has a bigger and brighter screen. Its screen brightness can max up to 2000 nits. The screen of the Apple Watch Ultra measures 1.92-inch, while Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro features a smaller 1.4-inch.

Performance

Since we haven’t been able to test the Apple Watch Ultra we can’t really attest to its performance. But it should perform better than or at least equal to the current Apple Watch Series 7 devices and prior. And those perform pretty well compared to smartwatches running on Wear OS. We’d expect nothing less but a snappy experience with Apple’s latest high-end smartwatch. The Watch Ultra is using a brand-new S8 chip which should perform just as well as the S7.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is using Samsung’s new W920. This is the same chip used on the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. But it still feels snappier on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Though not by much and to a majority of users, it may not even be noticeable. When it comes to RAM, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro comes with 16GB. Which honestly feels like more than enough for any type of action you might perform on a smartwatch.

It can’t hurt to have more RAM though. And the Apple Watch Ultra definitely comes with more RAM. At double the amount of the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, coming in at 32GB. That is sure to help with running different apps and completing tasks. And all that RAM may be needed with everything the Apple Watch Ultra can do.

When it comes down to it, both the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra will be able to handle anything you throw at them.

Health and Fitness Sensors

Now let’s get this straight. Both smartwatches have advanced health and fitness features. However, Apple Watch Ultra is a leap ahead with some unique features such as “Crash detection” that you won’t otherwise find on the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.

Features available on Samsung Galaxy: Samsung BioActive Sensor (Optical Heart Rate + Electrical Heart Signal + Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis), Temperature Sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, and Light Sensor (ECG certified and Blood Pressure monitor).

Features available on Apple Watch Ultra: High and low heart-rate notifications, Fall Detection, Crash Detection, Irregular rhythm notifications, Temperature sensing, Cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates, Blood Oxygen apps, SpO2, VO2max, and its ECG certification. Siren (can be heard up to 600 feet away in times of emergency), Customisable orange action button, Depth gauge, water temperature sensor, and Dive computer app.

Battery and Charging Tech

The Apple Watch Ultra has a battery life that is rated up to 36 hours under rigorous use with fast charging support. While The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro has a 590 mAh capacity and with fast charging, you can get 8 hours of battery life in just 8 minutes. And when fully charge, the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro can last you for a couple of days. Additionally, Apple Watch Ultra vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro supports wireless charging tech.
